  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • 1 egg

  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • Orange food coloring
  • Black food coloring
  • Royal icing for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk, until dough forms.
  6. Divide dough and roll out to ¼ inch thickness on a floured surface.
  7. Use a round cookie cutter to cut out circles for basketball shapes.
  8. Place cookies 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  10. Allow cookies to cool on wire racks.
  11. Use orange royal icing to flood the cookie tops, then pipe black icing lines to mimic basketball seams.
  12. Let icing set before serving or storing.

Notes

For extra fun, sprinkle with edible glitter or use gel food coloring to intensify the colors. These cookies pair perfectly with cold milk or hot cocoa on game day.
