  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour and baking soda; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter with granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt until creamy.
  4. Add vanilla extract and eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Gradually add flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
  6. Stir in chocolate chips.
  7. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and gently shape each into a heart using your fingers or a heart-shaped cookie cutter.
  8. Place on prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake for 10–12 minutes or until edges are golden brown.
  10. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra festive touch, drizzle melted white chocolate over the cooled cookies or sprinkle with red sanding sugar before baking.
