This Honey Pepper Chicken Mac and Cheese combines creamy, cheesy pasta with tender chicken glazed in a sweet and spicy honey pepper sauce for a comforting and flavorful meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups cooked chicken breast, diced
  • 3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until lightly golden to make a roux.
  3. Slowly whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in shredded cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, salt, garlic powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper until smooth.
  5. In a small bowl, combine diced chicken with honey and additional black pepper to coat the chicken evenly.
  6. Add the cooked macaroni and honey pepper chicken to the cheese sauce. Stir gently to combine all ingredients well.
  7. Return the saucepan to low heat and cook for another 2-3 minutes until heated through.
  8. Serve garnished with chopped fresh parsley for a fresh pop of color and flavor.

Notes

For an extra crispy topping, transfer the mac and cheese to a baking dish, sprinkle with breadcrumbs, and broil for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
